Parkinson’s Awareness Month:
Supporting Those Living with Parkinson's, community Connections.

By Alexandra Nash

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on Parkinson’s disease, its impact, and the importance of supporting those affected. At Beehive Care & Training Group Ltd, we are committed to raising awareness and fostering understanding of this neurodegenerative condition, which affects movement and can significantly impact quality of life.

Understanding Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects dopamine-producing neurons in the brain. Symptoms can vary widely but often include:

- Movement Symptoms: Tremors, stiffness, slowness of movement (bradykinesia), and balance issues.

- Non-Movement Symptoms: Anxiety, depression, fatigue, sleep disorders, and loss of smell.

In the UK, approximately 145,000 people are living with Parkinson’s, and every hour, two more people are diagnosed. While there is currently no cure, treatments such as medication, lifestyle changes, and therapies can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
